Ego

Lately, I've been musing about the importance of ego. Ego is important. In everything we do. In work. In life. In personal relationships. If you don't have an ego, you are screwed.

Taken deeper, I'm talking about self esteem. Look, if you don't think highly of yourself, no one else will. Cliche? No. The truth.

I'm not talking about being a prick. Being rude, mean and nasty isn't the answer. Shit, I'm also a firm believer in Karma. Being mean and nasty to other people will come back on you.

But I'm talking about ego: a solid, healthy belief that what you are doing, and who you are, is important.

Sometimes, we forget that.

where did that come from?

It came from the fact that I've realized that I've been far too humble about my career successes. I've had a great career, and have been very successful.

But, because I was raised to not get a big head and not "forget where you came from," I think I've always downplayed my successes, to my detriment sometimes.

That why I haven't heard back from you after my last e-mail?

here here, bro. give yo'self props. you earned 'em. and i agree with you wholeheartedly. but you know this 'cause i said it on the phone.

seriously, i think often some of us take a humble, subservient 'tude about ourselves 'cause we've been conditioned to think that's how we're supposed to feel about ourselves.
